Samsung ST95 review

Samsung's current camera range includes a number of highly pocketable models, including the ST95, which is just 17mm thick. At around £150 and sporting a resolution of 16.1 megapixels, the camera certainly offers a good megapixel-per-pound ratio. But what else is there to distinguish it from the competition?

Thinner than thou

Despite its slender body, the ST95 has a decent set of specs and comes with most of the latest mod cons. The 16.1-megapixel sensor allows it to capture still photos at resolutions of up to 4,608x3,456 pixels, which is pretty much the top figure for compact cameras at the moment. The 5x optical zoom lens has a focal length of 26-130mm (35mm film equivalent), which isn't exceptional but offers a reasonable balance of wide angle and zoom reach.
The video mode records clips in 720p high definition, at 30 frames per second. You'll find cameras capable of higher quality than this elsewhere but, again, it's perfectly acceptable given the ST95's size and price. It's worth noting, though, that the ST95's mono-only microphone means your movies will have poor-quality audio. Additionally, the camera doesn't have an HDMI-out socket, so there's no easy way to play back your videos on your HD Ready TV.

Colours are very strong, although bright reds and oranges can look rather luminous. The contrast is good too and fringing is largely kept at bay (click image to enlarge).
On a related note, the only output socket available is a dual USB/AV port. It's a proprietary socket, which isn't necessarily a massive problem but could be annoying if you misplace the special cable and find that you can't use a regular one instead. Similarly, the camera stores images on microSD cards only. If you were hoping to re-use a standard-sized SD card from your old camera, think again.

Samsung PL210 Review

samsung_pl210_450.JPG

Point-and-shoot cameras aren't known for high caliber zooming capabilities, but Samsung is announcing two new pocket-sized cameras aimed at customers who love capture images from afar. The cheaper of the two, the sub-$200 PL210, features a 14-megapixel image sensor behind a 10x optical zoom (35mm film equivalent: 27-270mm) lens. Housed in a compact, pocket-friendly casing, the PL210 offers dual image stabilization (digital and optical) and a large 3.0-inch LCD screen.

Like Samsung's other models in the PL series, the PL210 features a suite of filter and image processing technologies. Smart Filter 2.0 is mood-enhancement software with specially designed "looks" (soft focus, half tone dot, old movie, and enhanced movie) for both still images and HD 720p (30fps) movie recording. Smart Auto mode analyzes key elements of your shots -- brightness, color, motion, etc. -- and adjusts the camera settings automatically.

The Samsung ST95 compact camera may be little, but it's big on features. It's also easy to use, has a good touch-based interface and comes at a very fair price.

Interview for “TV Brussel”
(Pencil Vs Camera!)

Ben has done an interview with “TV Brussel,” which was broadcasted on the 18th of February 2011. As seen in the video, Ben, in a matter of few minutes, quickly demonstrates how his “Pencil Vs Camera” pieces are executed. When he has an idea in mind, he draws the subject on a small piece of torn paper. He then inserts the drawing and takes photos with the Samsung NX10, which is then created into a new reality.

Two Weekends, Two Places

Samsung Electronics has provided the author of this article with the mentioned digital imaging device.
For last two weekends, I was invited in other places by near people. On the first weekend, I made a visit to my friends living in Rennes. Rennes is one of the most beautiful cities in France, which has been the capital of Brittany region for ages. The city was a cultural nucleus for people in Brittany kingdom, when isn’t yet integrated as a part of France. Still there is many beautiful gothic and medieval architectures over the entire city, but now is more coming to fame for students, of which 30% of the total population are students.
The river cutting through calm of the city and old statues along historical monuments has completely fascinated me. I also had good moments in my friends’ apartment. That was an excellent weekend in an atmosphere preferably peaceful.

On the other weekend, I went to visit my grandmother. She welcomed me so delightfully as usual. She lives in a typical medieval village with old stone-built houses, just like from a fairy tale, where we can also see many impressive wooden-decorated buildings from a street to another. My grandmother and I had an outing under a clear sky. It was really pleasant.
